The Department is at the forefront of global knowledge concerning the understanding of processes taking place in metals during their production processes, and when exposed to extreme service conditions of load, temperature, and corrosive environment. We investigate the influence of well-controlled and carefully designed alloying on the alloy structure and phases, the influence of these factors on the product properties, and the potential industrial applications of these innovative alloys. The implementation of unique production processes, e.g., rapid solidification, is a challenging and exciting research field, enabling the development of materials exhibiting unique microstructures and properties. The research of controlled alloying employs computer simulation of the expected material structures and phases to improve our understanding of the researched phenomena and substantially increase the knowledge in this field.
