Transdermal drug delivery has emerged as a promising alternative to conventional routes of administration, offering several benefits such as improved patient compliance, reduced side effects, and enhanced bioavailability. Microneedles (MNs) are micron-sized needles designed as a minimally invasive system capable of piercing the main skin barrier, to facilitate the transport of drugs and macromolecules through the distinct layers of the skin, for local or systemic treatment.
This seminar will discuss the design, fabrication, and applications of biodegradable dissolving and hydrogel MNs made from various polymers. Emphasis will be placed on how material selection and structure influence mechanical properties, dissolution profiles, and controlled drug release.
