Atom probe tomography (APT) analysis of materials is an established technique for atomic level compositional analysis. Extensive research has been performed on many alloys, multilayered thin films, integrated circuits, and even polymers. Yet, the use of this technique is still limited in Chemistry, Biology, and Earth Sciences.
The aim of this talk is to present a general introduction of APT, including principles, sample preparation, and data acquisition/interpretation. In addition, I will present some work on biomaterials and new opportunities in the analysis of organic-inorganic phase interactions with recent cutting-edge technological advances.
