Titanium-Zirconium(TiZr) alloy has driven much attention as an excellent dental implant material. In
this project, Electro-Pulsing(EP) treatment is employed in attempt to optimize the mechanical properties of as-cast Ti-15wt%Zr alloy. The result shows a 10% microhardness increment and a 10% elastic modulus decrease, which are desirable for implant application.

To illustrate the mechanism behind, Scanning Electron Microscopy and Transmission Electron
Microscopy are used to characterize the microstructure before and after EP. From the EDS scans, the
desegregation effect of Zr in the lamellar boundaries under EP is exhibited. The optimizing mechanism
is deduced as solid-solution strengthening.
