Transition to efficient catalysis of hydrogen is a stepping stone for storage of green energy and combating the climate crisis. One of the largest limitations for this step is finding cheap efficient catalysts to replace the expensive industry standard: platinum. This study explores the efficacy of multi-faceted Mo-C for catalysis of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Several polymorphs of Mo-C were studied, including: c-MoC, h-Mo2C. DFT simulations were performed to investigate the reaction efficiency of these phases. Furthermore, the effect of carbon vacancies and Pt-nanorafts on reaction efficiency was also evaluated.
