Our lab studies quantum materials – a field of condensed matter physics concerned with understanding phenomena in which electron-electron interactions play a fundamental role. This broad family of materials exhibits fascinating phenomena such as high temperature superconductivity, metal-insulator transitions, structural transitions, spin/charge ordering, and many more. We are especially interested in materials exhibiting resistive switching due to insulator-metal phase transitions, which can be harnessed for emulating neuromorphic functionalities. We use state-of-the-art fabrication tools to create and couple artificial neurons and synapses – with the aim of developing hardware-level artificial neural networks.
