Postdoctoral fellows

Dr. Aliya Sharipova

Aliya received an Engineering Degree (equivalent to M.Sc.) in Electrical Engineering from Bauman Moscow State Technical University in 2013. To pursue her interest in materials science and manufacturing, she joined the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (SkolTech), – Russian university established in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 2013/14 she studied at MIT as a visiting student in Master program “Manufacturing and Product Realization”. In summer 2014, she spent an internship in Logeeks Ltd. (Novosibirsk, Russia), where she developed an operational process for personal 3D-printed implants. After becoming passionate about biomaterials and implants manufacturing, she did her Master project at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of Technion – Israel Institute of Technology on biodegradable metallic scaffolds for bone regeneration under the supervision of past Prof. Elazar Gutmanas. She graduated from SkolTech with a degree in Materials Science (M.Sc.) in 2016. To continue the investigation of biodegradable metals she joined the Doctoral program at Institute of Strength Physics and Materials Science of the Russian Academy of Science (Tomsk, Russia). During the studies, she was a visiting student at Technion. In 2019, she obtained Doctoral degree in Materials Science (Ph.D.) and received Julia Polak European Doctorate Award from European Society for Biomaterials (ESB). In late 2019, Aliya joined the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Nanomaterials Science as a postdoctoral fellow to develop drug-eluting biodegradable metals for orthopedic applications. She also works with Prof. Eugen Rabkin at Laboratory of Solid State Thermodynamics on the investigation of mechanical properties of partially oxidized nanoparticles. She is interested to apply this knowledge in implant surface bioactivation.
