Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage

Renewable and clean energy technologies are central to the sustainable development of mankind. Therefore, research and development of new materials for energy conversion and storage are at the forefront of materials science and engineering.

Our activities in this area include research and development of new materials for electrochemical energy conversion and storage systems such as Lithium ion batteries, metal/air batteries and fuel cells; semiconductor materials based on metal oxides, organic materials and their combination as hybrid materials for applications in solar cells and energy efficient light sources; thermoelectric materials for conversion of heat to electricity; ceramic materials for gas separation membranes; semiconductor photoelectrodes for solar hydrogen production by water splitting; and light metal alloys for hydrogen storage.
